Case Study Summary
What happened
R.M.S. London replaced an undersized wash setup with a higher-throughput plant. Setting themselves up for new growth.
With multiple recycling centres in operation, R.M.S outgrew a small wash plant. They needed higher output, more product flexibility, and a path toward zero aggregates to landfill. A turnkey recycled aggregate washing plant was commissioned in December 2020, built to handle highly variable feed. Spec’d at 120 tph, the system is averaging around 140 tph in operation.
Challenge
The Inconsistency
They needed a step-change in production, but the incoming feed was unpredictable. Bucket to bucket, material could swing between:
- Construction Waste
- Utility waste
- Trommel fines
- Constantly changing sand content and sand/silt ratio
The plant had to keep throughput steady even when the feed did not.

Solution
What was installed
A turnkey recycled aggregate washing plant was delivered, including a full water treatment system and filter press, engineered around real site conditions.
Designed for varied feed
- Built to accept diverse recycled aggregate while maintaining throughput
- Specified at 120 tph, achieving ~140 tph average.

Easy Numbers
Plant Design
The plant was designed specifically to accept a diverse recycled aggregate feed while maintaining throughput.
Average Achieved
R.M.S. gained a higher-throughput washing operation that can keep up with changing recycled feed conditions, a broader product mix, and reduce landfill reliance.
Quality End Specs
Producing 3 washed aggregate end specs (10mm, 20mm, 40mm), plus a washed sand product where fine and coarse sand fractions can be blended to hit required grading.
Results
Key Outcomes
- Higher throughput with variable feed, even when sand content and fines change load to load.
- More saleable outputs from recycled material, including washed aggregates and washed sand that can be blended to meet grading.
- Less going to landfill by recovering more usable material from incoming waste streams.
- Cleaner, more consistent operation with on-site water treatment and controlled fines handling.
Outputs produced
- 10 mm, 20 mm, 40 mm washed aggregate
- Washed sand (fine and coarse fractions can be blended to spec)
Throughput
Specified at 120 tph, averaging around 140 tph in operation.
